According to Bill Knop, President of the Fire Protection District, "Since the inception of the Staunton Fire Protection District in 1979, our main goal has been to update our equipment into modern state-of-the-art vehicles and equipment to fill the needs of the people within the District. As we have done this over the years, it became evident that the housing we rented from the City of Staunton was rapidly being outgrown. Our plan has been for the last 10 years to purchase a piece of property and build a fire station able to accommodate our current and future growth." The 13,000 sq. ft. facility is built with a Butler pre-engineered systems steel building and incorporates exterior masonry, hidden fastener aggregate panels and a colored architectural standing seam roof. The interior has adequate room for all current vehicles and is large enough to house future vehicles. The building also houses the dispatch area, commander's offices, training areas, storage, clean up and repair areas. This is a state-of-the-art facility for a fire protection district of this size and should serve the community for decades.
